Overview

Come join us for a fun and hands-on Beginners Spoon carving course!

Carve your own wooden eating spoon using locally-sourced green wood.

Located in the woods at Faldonside Eco, on the banks of the River Tweed, this introduction to spoon carving will teach you how to create and object that is both beautiful and useful. Start the day with a block of wood, and end it with your own spoon to take home. Spoon carving is a slow, therapeutic craft that can be done using simple tools: an axe and specialist carving knives. Enjoy a mindful and relaxed day, practising an ancient technique in natural surroundings.

This course is designed to guide you through the basics:

An introduction to green woodworking

Choosing the best wood for your project, the pros and cons of different woods

Safe and efficient tool use: axes, saws, knives.

Spoon design

Axing out your spoon

Whittling techniques

Finishing: drying, burnishing, and oiling.

Please note - Over 18's only
