About this event

Free and open to all.

Stanley Kubrick’s cinematic legacy continues to resonate, influencing generations of filmmakers, fashion designers, musicians and artists. While his iconic films are widely celebrated, the Stanley Kubrick Archive also has the potential to extend this legacy. It holds a wealth of inspirational untold stories, offering a deeper understanding of the creative process and the people involved.

Join us for an insightful talk that delves into Catriona McAvoy’s groundbreaking PhD research focussed on the often-overlooked contributions of the “below the line” film workers who contributed to Kubrick’s masterpieces. This presentation will illuminate their creative input, their careers beyond Kubrick, and their presence within the archive itself. In discussion with archivist Georgina Orgill the methods they developed to find and address silences and absences in the archive will be shared. They will encourage others to approach the archive from a new perspective, challenging dominant narratives and presenting multiple ways of viewing the past.

This talk is perfect for film enthusiasts, researchers, students and anyone interested in exploring creative careers, the filmmaking process and approaches to archival research. Learn how Kubrick’s cinematic legacy can be activated through the archive to reclaim the past, reflect on the present and inspire the film workers of the future.
