Event description

Description

This workshop will be led by Dr Jon Symonds, Lecturer in Social Work with Children and Families at the University of Bristol, where he teaches on the social work programme and researches fatherhood and social work practice. Jon is a registered social worker and worked for fifteen years in social care and social work settings with adults with learning disabilities and children and young people.

In this session, Jon will focus on working with adults with a learning disability. The session will draw on recent UK and international research, and will consider current ideas about best practice in specific areas such as being a parent with a learning disability. As well as a presentation, the format will include opportunities for small and large group discussion where we will reflect on some of the tensions in achieving best practice and how practitioners might take these ideas forward.
