BFI NETWORK Roundtable 6: Professional Development

What resource, funds, and opportunities are available for my professional development?

Come and join our experts Nicole Davis (Promotions Coordinator, Creative Europe Desk UK) and Jo Duncombe (Film Programme Manager, British Council) and Arlen Barke (Project Officer, Scottish Film Talent Network) at this roundtable to discuss professional development along the stages of your film career.

Nicole is the Promotions Coordinator for Creative Europe Desk UK, and is based at the British Film Institute in London. She is responsible for communicating the funding opportunities available in the MEDIA sub-programme. Prior to this, Nicole was a Digital Marketing Coordinator for the BFI, and has previously worked at an International Sales Agent, a VFX studio and a video-on-demand start-up.

Jo manages short film, new talent and European programmes at the British Council. She also works as a freelance curator, most recently at Birds’ Eye View – championing new cinema created by women. She was previously a film programmer at the ICO and programme director at London Short Film Festival. Jo is the UK programmer for the Victoria Film Festival, and programmes Latin American Film for CASA Festival in London. She has worked as an impact strategist and fundraiser on documentaries including A Syrian Love Story.

Arlen is a Project Officer for SFTN, coordinating all programmes and offering administrative support to the Talent Development Executive and management team. In four years of working at SFTN Arlen has been involved in 40 short film productions and comes from an arts administrative background having previously worked at Edinburgh International Film Festival, Creative Scotland and Festivals Edinburgh.
