Can I view the routes prior?

Routes can be found linked above. We recommend downloading or saving the routes prior. The route for the short stroll will likely stay to the grounds and perimeter of Towneley Park, and will be provided closer to the day of the event.

Question 2

Will there be anywhere to buy food and drink?

Accepted Answer

There will be light refreshments available at the start and finish.
If you are completing  the longer route there will be a half way check point with water, fruit and biscuits.

There are multiple cafe's and shops around Towneley Park. We do ask that walkers carry their own food and water.

Question 3

What do I need to bring?

All walkers should come prepared in suitable, weather appropriate clothing and carry any food and drinks needed. The walks are self guided, so a map and/or mobile phone with the OutdoorActive link to view the route would be advantageous.

Is there a minimum age limit?

Accepted Answer

No, however the shorter stroll is recommended for families with prams or little legs.
If you register anyone under the age of 16, you will be asked to declare that they are able and healthy to complete the route and will be under strict adult supervision throughout.

My whole family wants to take part. Can I complete one registration for us all?

Unfortunately not. We need to be fully aware of who and how many people are participating. This includes registering any little ones in prams. So please ensure you order a ticket for each individual.

Question 6

Where can I park?

Accepted Answer

There are multiple pay and display car parks within Towneley Park, that are only a 5-10 minute walk to the start location. More information on parking can be found here https://towneley.org.uk/visit/parking/. NB. The Hall Carpark is charged by the hour, not the day.

Question 7

What time do I have to arrive?

We recommend arriving 30 minutes before your walk departs. This should give you ample time to check in and have a comfort break before the pre race briefing and walk departing.

Are there toilets en route?

Accepted Answer

There are toilets on site at the start location at Offshoots community garden. Additionally there are multiple public toilets within Towneley Park.

Question 9

Are dogs allowed?

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcomed. Please be mindful of other participants who may be afraid of dogs, especially in the crowded areas at the start of the event. Routes may also go through fields with livestock, so they must be kept on a lead at all times.

Is it suitable for prams?

The short stroll will be family friendly, suitable for all ages including prams. The medium route, and THE Big Burnley Walk is not suitable for prams.

Question 11

Can children do the longer route?

Accepted Answer

All children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and strict adult supervision is required throughout all routes. If you register anyone under the age of 16 for the longer routes, you will be asked to declare that they are able and healthy to complete the route selected.

How do I get to Offshoots?

What 3 words - ///riders.formal.drives. Offshoots Community garden is based a short walk from Towneley Hall, nestled between the bowling green and Hall Car Park. It is signposted throughout the park.

What do I do if I can't complete the route?

Accepted Answer

We ask that if you drop out part way round a route, that you tell your intentions to a member of the team. Either the tail walker or a member of the team at the half way check point for those completing the longer route.
