The 2015/16 year has seen significant progress in the development of digital and informatics strategy across the Wessex region as well as the digital roadmaps which will support us to achieve the targets as set out in the Five Year Forward View and the National Information Board’s Personalised Health and Care 2020: a framework for action.
However, as most of us are aware, there is still a significant way to go to achieving our main aim of optimising technology across the Wessex health and care landscape. The last decade has seen huge advances in the amount of data we routinely generate, as well as our ability to use technology to analyse and understand it. The connection between these trends is what is referred to as 'Big Data' and for those businesses who have already adopted their approach to Big Data it has enabled them to become more efficient and productive.
Big Data in healthcare is being used to cure disease, improve quality of life, avoid preventable deaths and more importantly plan primary prevention strategies. With the UK population increasing and all of us living longer, through initiatives such as the Vanguards, models of care are rapidly changing, and many of the decisions behind those changes are being driven by data.
This Big Data conference, chaired by Richard Samuel (Chief Officer, NHS Fareham and Gosport CCG & NHS South Eastern Hampshire CCG), will provide an overview of Big Data from experts within the field, as well as practical examples of how Big Data is being used to improve the way that we deliver services. A Big Data expo will be accessible throughout the day and in the afternoon a variety of plenary sessions will gather feedback from participants to help shape future actions.
