Learn how to fix and maintain your own bike in a safe and friendly environment conveniently located in the North West.

Introduction:

This hands-on course is an ideal introduction to bike maintenance. It will give the learner the skills and knowledge to be able to carry out many routine bike maintenance jobs without the need for a trip to the local bike shop.

The course is taught by a Cytech Master Mechanic with a vast amount of experience teaching and assessing bike maintenance within the cycle industry.

Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for home mechanics, volunteers or those considering a career in the cycle industry.

Prerequisites:

No previous experience required.

  • Health and safety, PPE
  • Basic mechanical principles
  • Home workshop set up
  • Degreasing, cleaning and lubrication
  • How to check for wear and tear

Bike Maintenance 101 - Wheels

  • Axles and frame/fork attachments
  • Tyres and tubes
  • Wheel truing

Bike Maintenance 101 - Gears

  • Derailleur alignment
  • Replacing cable systems
  • Derailleur set up and gear indexing

Bike Maintenance 101 - Brakes

  • Brake calliper alignment
  • Replacing cable systems
  • Replacing brake pads
  • Brake set up and adjustments

Bike Maintenance 101 - Drivetrain

  • Wear and tear
