ELIXIR unites Europe’s leading life science organisations in managing and safeguarding the increasing volume of data being generated by publicly funded research. It coordinates, integrates and sustains bioinformatics resources across its member states and enables users in academia and industry to access services that are vital for their research.Information captured during registration including gender data is gathered by the ELIXIR Hub in line with ourEqual Opportunities Strategyand only to support our ongoing efforts to address gender balance at every level of our events; committee members, speakers and attendees. All data is anonymised and aggregated. 3rd Biohackathon Europe is going virtually.

Following the success of the past Biohackathons (2018, 2019), and building on the Biohackathons organised by National Bioscience Database Center (NBDC) and Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS), we are running Biohackathon Europe 2020 virtually this year. We hope to build on our success and encourage more ELIXIR and non-ELIXIR participants to take part and also have industry engagement.This year, we bring you the BioHackathon in a virtual fashion. It will put online platforms to the test to bring you a fun and productive event — we will be using Remo &amp; SLACK.We believe the new format will allow everyone to participate in the BioHackathon and deliver tangible outcomes from the selected projects.The list of selected hacking topics can be found <a href="https://www.biohackathon-europe.org/projects.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">here</a>.<h2>Goals</h2><ul><li>Advance the development of an open-source infrastructure for data integration to accelerate scientific innovation. We will focus on technology implementations such as FAIR, identifiers, metadata standards, ontologies and metadata catalogues that support the operations across <a href="https://www.elixir-europe.org/platforms" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ELIXIR platforms</a> (Compute, Data, Interoperability, Tools, and Training)</li><li>Engage the technical people in the bioinformatics community inside and outside ELIXIR to work together on topics of common interest aligned to ELIXIR activities.</li><li>Strengthen the interactions with ELIXIR platforms and communities to establish and reinforce collaborations through hands-on programming activities.</li></ul><h2>Benefits</h2>New Development<ul><li>Prototypes, proof-of-concepts or drafts that can evolve later and be integrated into production (or could be identified as something that is better dismissed at that time)</li></ul>Existing developments and resources<ul><li>Testing new versions</li><li>Gathering information on possible new features</li><li>Reaching new users and improving awareness</li></ul>Personal and community Building<ul><li>Collaborative learning emerged from discussions with peers</li><li>Sharing interests that could bring people to organise or grow communities</li></ul><h2>Registration for the meeting - conditions: </h2>Registration for the BioHackathon is free.The capacity is limited and it is on a first come first serve basis.
