Biological Making Workshop 2019

The Francis Crick Making lab

The general goal of this workshop is to bring together people in the Crick and it’s partner universities that are either already using, or have an interest in using micro- and macro-fabricated devices in their experiments. The specific aim of this event is to bring together people, ideas and activities surrounding biological making – including but not limited to micro-, macro-, optical-, thermal- and electronic-design and fabrication (such as microfluidics, micropatterning, 3D printing and CNC milling). This is being spearheaded by the <A HREF="https://www.crick.ac.uk/research/platforms-and-facilities/making-lab" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="Making STP" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Making STP</A> at the Francis Crick institute.
 
Keynote speaker-Matthieu Piel (CNRS/Institut Curie/Institut Pierre Gilles de Gennes) 
Matthieu Piel did his PhD at the Institut Curie in Paris in Michel Bornen’s lab and Postdoc in Andrew Murray’s lab at Harvard before starting an independent research group at the Institut Curie, and his lab is now based at the Instiut Pierre Gilles de Gennes in Paris. He has authored more than 150 publications and is a world leader in fundamental understanding of cell polarity in the context of cell migration and division. His publication record incudes contributions to fundamental biology, as well as novel tool development especially in the areas of microfluidics and micropatterning. In addition, he holds several patents and co-founded the CYTOO company and the institute where his lab is now based.
