BIPOC Workshop: Rule of 3: Patterns, Patterns and Something Else with Terrance Lamonte Rogers, Jr.

About this event

BIPOC workshops are an open and supportive creative space for BIPOC performers of all ages and skill levels.

Rule of 3: Patterns, Patterns and something else: Learn to Heighten like a #Boss

After almost every improv show I’ve performed, an audience member has asked “you all rehearsed before, right?” Though improv has no scripts, we do use patterns to find structure in a scene. In this class, we will take a closer look at comedy patterns, how to find them, and using them to help elevate our scenes. Does comedy really come in threes???

Learn what comedy patterns are and how to find them in scenes

How to use patterns to identify games and beats in scenes

Nursery/Maydays Sunday Classes

We work hard to provide a welcoming environment for all improvisers. In order to give space to different experiences and identities, the Nursery and the Maydays have worked to provide opportunities for specific groups to meet, connect, and improvise with one another. Each workshop will cover different topics depending on the instructor. Sometimes sessions will be aimed at particular skills, issues and questions, and other times they will simply be a place for people to come together and play.

The Nursery and the Maydays are constantly working to create programming based on the needs of our current students and the global improv community. If there is an underrepresented group that you would like to see have a workshop, send an email to classes@thenurserytheatre.com

Min. participants 6, max. 12.

Terrance Lamonte, Jr. is an actor and comedic improviser, sketch writer and producer, and professional teaching artist. Whether it’s entertaining at venues or facilitating improv-based workshops, he is the guy for the gig. Born and raised on the West side of Chicago (yes, Uncle Remus is better than Harold’s), Terrance has been cultivating his comedy chops professionally for almost a decade. Notably, he has performed at venues including The Second City’s Mainstage and National Touring Company, iO Chicago, Annoyance Theater, ComedySportz Chicago, Laugh Out Loud Theaters, and has toured around the country delivering laughs with Mission IMPROVable. He has also appeared on VICE and ABC 7 Chicago.

This intermediate workshop runs Sunday 18th April, 3 - 5.30 pm BST.

Intermediate (3/6 months+) These classes will be opportunities to add tools to your growing toolbox. Normally these classes will expect players to be confident playing scenes. These classes will provide practice and specific new skills.

Whatever the level of ability required, all of our classes are safe, supportive environments led by our experienced teachers. Please email us if you are unsure whether a class is suitable for you. If you sign up for a class inappropriate to your level the Nursery/Maydays reserved the right to remove you from the class without refund.

Closed captioning is available in all of our classes and courses. If you need any information on how to access this in zoom, please contact classes@thenurserytheatre.com
