Bishopthorpe to Naburn Lock (and back)

Terrain: Mainly footpaths but with an offroad path (see below pic)

Parking: Free onstreet car parking is available on Main Street and surrounding areas.


We will meet in central Bishopthorpe and join the Solar System Cycleway where we will see some of the planets and other artworks. We leave the cycle path at Naburn and head down to the lock and visit The by the Lock tearooms.

We will be taking a decent break at the lock, so feel free to bring a packed lunch or eat at the tea rooms.

After the break we will head back up to Naburn, join the cycle path and walk back to Bishopthorpe and end at The Marcia pub.

The route is mainly paths, however there are some sections where we will be walking on roadside banks, so it is not suitable for people with access needs.

This event is for 18+ only.

Location of the start will be given when you register.

We will be walking on this path for about a mile.

Is there a planned route?

Yes there is. This will be made available to you via a link when you book.

Is it dog friendly?

Yes it is. The pub is also dog friendly, however there will be live music from 9pm and it will be busy.

Do I have to go the pub?

No of course not. You can jus join us for the walk. The reason for going to the pub afterwards is so you actually have a proper chat with people.

Can I just meet you at the pub?

Yes you can. We understand that not everyone is able to do the walks and you can just meet us at the pub.

Are these walks guided or insured?

Although there will be an event host and a planned route, this is not a guided walk. It is not insured. You are responsible for yourself. No first aid or medical assistance is available.

Can I come on my own?

Yes of course. You will get to meet loads of new people.

Can children come?

This is for adults only.

How fast will the pace be?

It will be a gentle pace and we will stop regularly to make sure everyone keeps up. This is NOT a serious walking group. There are a lot of other options available if this is what you are looking for.

Can I book multiple tickets?

No. You can only book a single ticket. If friends/family/partners want to join, please share the link with them and ask them to sign up.

Walks to the Pub is a social group, that happens to also go on walks. The aim is for you to meet a range on new people, take in the sights of York and then go to a local pub or cafe for a chat.
