Sussex Blazing Saddles and The Bicycle Ballet Co present a FREE taster Blazing Saddles workshop. Come and dance with your bike (or borrow one) at Preston Park, Brighton.

Blazing Saddles is an outdoor performance celebrating the impact of bicycles on women and fashion from 1890s onward. This unique taster session offers a flavour of the show, which will be created with local participants in Brighton in September 2024 as part of Sussex Blazing Saddles.

You will learn the show's choreographic structures and moves, as well as create your own moves and short sequences, finally working together with the whole group.

Following this taster, we very much hope you will take part in September's Blazing Saddles show in Brighton. The show will be created with participants on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd September, with a finnal performance & ride through the city on 22nd

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bike? What do I do if I don't have one?

Yes you will need a bike. Please bring it along if you have one, If not, it may be possible to borrow a bicycle. If you need one, please contact us on info(at)sussexblazingsaddles.co.uk giving your age and height.

    Is there an age limit?

There's no age limit, but participants need a basic level of cycling skills. We recommend Bikeability Level Two, and be able to cycle safely with one hand off the handlebars.

Why is it for women and girls only?

Yes – our aim is to shine a light on the historical impact of the advent of the bicycle on women, and to encourage more women to ride today (especially as women are much less likely to cycle than men). There will be future opportunities for everyone to join in.
