A common feature of German society is the existence of “Stammstisch” and “Kaffee und Kuchen” both of which are informal group meetings held in a bar or a coffee shop respectively, and this tradition has evolved over time to be much more of a space where conversation is the name of the game, and the benefits of taking part are acknowledged to help fight social isolation and improve wellbeing.Charles Michies Union Street are starting their own version of this called “Blether Together” in association with Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA). It’s hoped that over time “Blether Together” will develop a life if its own, a completely informal meeting place that anyone can attend and be part of the conversation, what ever the topic is. Of course some topics will be off limits and the chat should not be confused with a therapy session, but with millions of these groups meeting every week across the world, they must be doing something right!So come along, grab a cuppa (and a cake!), look for the sign on the table and feel free to join in the chat, it’s that easy.
