About this course

Within this taster session you will start your story into Bobbin Lace Making, a heritage craft with rich and long history; dating from the 1500’s. Within the session you will gain experience of the equipment and have a go at Bobbin Lace Making.


Over the course learners will be introduced to the equipment in bobbin lace. You will get brief look at the history of bobbin lace and some of the styles that are found in the UK and the world,


What will learners achieve by the end of the course?

  • Develop/improve their eye and hand coordination
  • Develop/Use counting skills & measuring – Be able to measure requirements of cord for a project
  • Analyse the benefits of creative activities to improved mental health
  • Have understanding of equipment, and be able to identify elements of equipment.
  • Demonstrate how to wind bobbins and create slip loop.
  • Have the understanding of the basic Bobbin Lace Stitches

Equipment can be used in class from the tutor, but if learners have lacemaking equipment, please bring it along

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).
