This is a friendly, supportive low to medium impact fitness class for people who don’t particularly like exercise!

This is a friendly, supportive low to medium impact fitness class for people who don’t like exercise. Or feel like it’s just never really been for them.

The idea came from my mum. She hates exercise, so I designed her a weekly 45-minute workout that felt realistic, not intimidating, and most importantly… one she would actually stick to.

She still hates exercise, but she’s stronger, a bit fitter, and feels better for it.

Her friends asked if they could join too. And here we are.

This class is for people who think endorphins are a myth and don’t want to be shouted at.

And are far more motivated by the coffee at the end than the workout itself.

We move at a sensible pace, focus on feeling stronger and more confident, and keep things simple and manageable.

You can take breaks whenever you need to. Turning up is what counts.

Your instructor

I’m Bethan McGowan. I’m a semi-pro footballer and have been involved in high-level sport since I was a child. I have a First Class BSc in Sport and Exercise Health Science from the University of Birmingham and I’m a certified FAW football coach. Don’t worry though, this class is very much not elite athlete vibes.

The classes

The classes run weekly at Urban HQ on Wednesdays, 9am to 9.45am. You are very welcome to stay for a coffee in the café afterwards.

You’ll need a set of dumbbells – start light (1kg is fine - you can build up slowly), and I’ll also bring a couple of spare sets along. Bring a yoga mat.

Wear something comfortable. Let me know about any injuries or worries beforehand.

Who is this suitable for?

Suitable for all ages 18+ and perfect if you are 40+. Beginners welcome.
