BODY COPY
BODY COPY, a photo-text series by Mitchell Moreno.
About this event
In the words of RuPaul, “We’re all born naked, and the rest is drag”. Nowhere is this clearer than on men-for-men dating apps - a world awash with geeks, leather daddies, jocks, businessmen, bears, skinheads and twinks. In BODY COPY, artist Mitchell Moreno takes adverts found on these apps and tries to construct ‘ideal’ responses to them. The resulting self-portraits are at once rich, humorous, and unsettling. Begun by Moreno while in recovery from body dysmorphic disorder, the series moves beyond the therapeutic to explore how queer masculinities are performative, codified, and unstable constructions, rooted in material and digital cultures.
This is the UK premier of BODY COPY following exhibitions at Ballarat International Foto Biennale (Australia), Copenhagen Photo Festival (Denmark), Singapore International Photography Festival, and Encontros da Imagem (Portugal).
Please arrive at the correct time stated on your ticket. Our entrance is just past the entrance to Brixton Recreation centre on Brixton Station Road. We will ask you to arrive in a mask, wash hands frequently, and make use of the hand sanitiser.
