Book Launch and Digital Design Showcase

Book Launch and Digital Design Showcase

Room J.03Edinburgh
Friday, Feb 13 from 2 pm to 4 pm GMT
Overview

Launch of 'The Student Guide to the Creative Studio in the Digital Age' and a chance to experience work by Design and Digital Media students

In The Student Guide to the Creative Studio in the Digital Age, the authors, together with more than twenty industry experts and education specialists, introduce you to the idea of the studio, expanding it to include any creative space, whether physical or digital, from university environments to home offices and online platforms. The book supports you in creating an inspiring workspace, excelling in both solo and collaborative projects, and understanding what it means to be creative in the third decade of the twenty-first century.

This event will feature an overview of the book’s key themes, a conversation with the authors, Denitsa Petrova and Doug Specht, and time for questions and discussion. We will also be joined remotely by several contributors including former MSc Design and Digital Media students who are now professionals in the design industry.

Running concurrently will be a showcase of work by MSc Design and Digital Media students featuring digital, physical and interactive pieces. There will be brief, introductory talks from students and staff.

Dr Denitsa Petrova is a creative practitioner and an educationalist. Her research delves into the realms of online pedagogy, leveraging digital tools for education, and harnessing the power of generative artificial intelligence in academic and creative contexts. She is a Director of the Master’s Programme in Digital Media Design at the University of Edinburgh, playing a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of digital innovators.

Dr Doug Specht is a cultural geographer and educationalist. His research explores themes related to environmental justice, human rights, and access to education, with a focus on the production and codification of knowledge through cartographic artefacts and in educational settings. In recognition of his work, he has been appointed as a Chartered Geographer and Chartered Teacher. In addition, he has been awarded Advanced Teacher Status, alongside being a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE.
