<P><EM>Policy, Belief and Practice in the Secondary English Classroom</EM>, by Bethan Marshall, Simon Gibbons, Louise Hayward and Ernest Spencer, takes a case study approach to compare the teaching of English in Canada, England and Scotland. The findings of this research, which are presented in the book, raise interesting questions about English pedagogy, curriculum and assessment in three jurisdictions that have seen contrasting levels of national policy intervention and which, if the data from PISA is to be believed, have strikingly contrasting levels of attainment in literacy amongst their students. At this book launch Sir Tim Brighouse will speak and there will be the opportunity to network with colleagues from the English teaching community.</P>
