About this event

Book lovers, rejoice! On Saturday, 24th August, from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, August House in Glasgow will transform into a literary haven for the Bookface Sip & Swap event, featuring the renowned author Jenny Colgan. Known for her heartwarming and engaging novels, Jenny will be showcasing her latest book, Close Knit, in an afternoon filled with sipping, swapping, and storytelling.

Bookface is an online book group on Facebook with almost 4000 members in 48 countries. Their mantra is “Life is too short for ***t books!” so they only trade on great reads.

Founder Heather Suttie says “Bookface is where to go if you’re looking for your next amazing read. It’s like Goodreads on acid!”

The Bookface Sip & Swap event is the perfect afternoon true for bibliophiles. With over 200 carefully curated titles available for swapping, attendees can indulge their literary cravings while enjoying complimentary drinks. This event offers the perfect opportunity to mingle with fellow book enthusiasts and discover new reads.

The highlight of the afternoon will be an intimate session with Jenny Colgan, one of the UK's most beloved authors of feel-good fiction. Jenny's impressive portfolio includes nearly fifty novels, novellas, short stories, and children’s books, with over ten million copies sold worldwide. Her books have graced the Sunday Times bestseller list for more than thirty weeks, capturing the hearts of readers across the globe.

In Close Knit, Jenny Colgan returns to the remote Scottish Island of Carso where the pilot for the local airline is Morag, who stopped flying long haul to return home in Summer Skies. Unlike Morag, Gertie has never had the courage to leave the island where she was born. It's the only place she knows, but she can’t do anything without everyone knowing. Especially as she lives in a tiny cottage with her mother and grandmother who are the women at the heart of the local Knitting Circle; a group of strong, capable women who work hard, gossip, knit - and support each other through thick and thin.

Jenny Colgan is not only a prolific author but also a passionate advocate for romantic fiction. She has been recognized with awards such as the RNA Romantic Novel of the Year Award and the RNA Romantic Comedy Novel of the Year Award. Jenny speaks out against the sidelining of genre fiction and supports books by women for women, making her an important voice in the literary community.

The Bookface Sip & Swap events are known for their vibrant atmosphere and have hosted an array of notable authors, including Sara Sheridan, Val McDermid, Davinia Taylor, Susannah Constantine, Helen Fields, Sophie Gravia, Chris Brookmyre, Alan Parks, Doug Allan, and Helen Fitzgerald. Future events promise appearances by Sara Sheridan, Donna Ashworth, and many more.

Whether you're an avid reader, aspiring writer, or simply looking for an inspiring afternoon, the Bookface Sip & Swap event has something for everyone. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with fellow book lovers and meet Jenny Colgan.
