Professor Liam McIlvanney is an award-winning crime writer and academic, known for his gripping, atmospheric thrillers. Born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, he studied at Glasgow and Oxford before building a distinguished career in Scottish and Irish literature. He taught at the University of Aberdeen before moving to New Zealand, where he holds the prestigious Stuart Chair of Scottish Studies at the University of Otago.
McIlvanney is the bestselling author of the Conway Trilogy and the Duncan McCormack series—tense, intelligent crime fiction with a strong sense of place. He is also the son of William McIlvanney, the celebrated author of the DI Jack Laidlaw novels, often credited with shaping the Tartan Noir genre.
His highly anticipated new novel, The Good Father, releases in 2025. Readers can celebrate its arrival at the Bookface Sip & Swap event on Sunday, 13th July, in Glasgow.

The monthly sold-out Bookface events are an opportunity for budding authors and avid readers to pick the brains of successful authors and enjoy an uplifting event with people who love great books.
Guests are encouraged to bring four books to participate in the sustainable book swap where there are 300 titles to choose from. This is not necessary as we understand many people prefer Kindle or audio formats.
