Borders & Boundaries: Artist Talk Series II with Leo Fitzmaurice

Borders & Boundaries: Artist Talk Series II with Leo Fitzmaurice

Hereford College of Arts (University Campus)Hereford, England
Thursday, Jan 22, 2026 from 6 pm to 7:30 pm GMT
Overview

Join us for our second engaging artist talk series with Hereford College of Arts.

Following the success of the 2025 Artist Talk series, Meadow Arts and Hereford College of Arts present Borders & Boundaries. In this second series, the new programme invites five artists whose practices explore borders, boundaries and marginal spaces, to offer their critical perspectives on identity, place and belonging.

At a time marked by rising nationalism, global conflict, intolerance and marginalisation, these talks create space to listen to artists who respond with care, rigour and resilience. Through discussion of their work, the speakers will share how contemporary art can question divisions and open up new ways of thinking.

Several of the invited artists will also feature in a major Meadow Arts exhibition at Hay Castle, opening in May 2026.

Presented in partnership with Hereford College of Arts and Meadow Arts, this free talk series is open to all — including practising artists, students, graduates and anyone curious about the power of art to challenge, connect and inspire change. Join us for thought-provoking conversations and bold ideas shaping contemporary artistic practice today.

Please note: This event will take place in the Main Hall.

About the artist:

Rather than adhering to a specific medium or form, Leo Fitzmaurice‘s practice is deeply rooted in a process of roaming and observation. His focus invariably centres on the everyday—the subtleties so common they are often overlooked. He confronts themes of consumerism, the repercussions of mass production, and the physical structures onto which information is placed, presented, or contained. Previous bodies of Fitzmaurice’s work have explored a diverse range of materials, including discarded Coca-Cola cans, plastic shopping bags, abandoned cigarette packets, and promotional flyers—each imbued with a sense of disposability that contradicts their enduring impact on the environment.
