Botanical Booth

Fred Aldousltd began in Manchester in 1886 with a man called Fred who had a bright idea and a cracking beard. Working in a cotton mill he noticed that the cotton was being transported in baskets. This gave him the idea for a business – he would import the cane to make them. We’ve grown over the last 125 years but we still do what Fred started – supplying materials to people who make things. We started off with just three products, now we stock more than 25,000 and sell to customers all over the world.

Caroline Dowsett will lead a workshop taking inspiration from her ongoing Botanical Everyday project which has seen her illustrate flowers and plant life on a daily basis. 
The workshop, which runs from 1 - 5pm, will consist of two parts plus a tea break. 
In the first part of the workshop Caroline will give a presentation about flowers, their meanings and the connection between humans and nature. She will then lead a drawing and making session where you will get to work across a range of different materials to create your own flowers. 
In the second part of the workshop you will each have your picture taken in the photobooth with your flower. You will then, one by one hang your flower in the photobooth so that each strip creates a growing photobooth botanical garden. 
Caroline will then use the photobooth images from the workshop to produce a risograph zine which will show the garden growing and describe each flower and its meaning. Your copy of the zine will be available to collect from Fred Aldous after the workshop, or can be posted out to you. 
This workshop is part of the Internation Photobooth Convention 2016. 
Returning to the UK for the first time in nearly a decade, The International Photobooth Convention 2016 will take place Monday 9 – Friday 13 of May at Fred Aldous in Manchester. Led by photobooth artists Mr Mixup and Kate Tyler along with Ali Gunn from Fred Aldous, the convention will be a celebration of analogue photobooths through workshops, discussion, exhibition and film.
