Discover ancient ink making methods from barks, nuts and leaves. Join us at SILT for a hands-on workshop on creating beautiful tannin black inks from botanical sources and modifiers. Learn the art of extracting tannins from plants and turning them into rich, dark inks for your creative projects. This in-person event will guide you through the process step by step, giving you the skills to continue your ink-making journey at home. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the world of natural dyeing and unleash your creativity.

Organized by

SILT is a studio and community hub for ecologically aware image and colour research set up by Anna Chrystal Stephens and Alison Ballance. We run in-person workshops for use of our facilities, public events, talks and exhibitions.

All elements of our programme relate to environmentally focused art practice. Processes and materials used and made in the space range from analogue photographic images developed with non-toxic plant based substance, paints, inks and dyes made using ecologically safe ingredients, textiles made with foraged or repurposed materials.
