Adrian Wilson

Mathematics and music are often said to be closely connected and this will be explored in conversation with Adrian Wilson, Principal Oboe with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. With a degree in Maths and Music, and a subsequent career as an outstanding oboist, Adrian is particularly well placed to speak to the connections between the two subjects. There will also be opportunities for audience contributions to the discussion.
About the speaker
After a degree in Mathematics and Music at the University of Birmingham, Adrian Wilson undertook postgraduate studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music in London, with further study in Paris and Rotterdam. He joined the RSNO in 2014, since when his beautiful playing has been a key part of the orchestra's many performances. He also works with the renowned chamber group, Ensemble 360, which is based at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

The aim of the annual Bowman Lecture is to highlight the crucial importance of the mathematical sciences in addressing issues of public importance.
