<h3>breaDth explores the grip of two interconnected viruses killing in the UK; COVID-19 and racial discrimination; and the importance of oxygen for our lungs and for life. Publicist: Poppy Bennett.</h3><h3>SUMMARY</h3><p>Some of the more recent journeys of the empire made since the 1950s are those journeys made from the colonised countries to the UK to satisfy the demand for labour after the second World War. The play breaDth, still in a phase of Research and Development was written as part of national research into the lingering and ongoing racism still experienced by those who made that journey and their descendants and how this was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.</p><p>Set on a multiracial street somewhere in the UK, breaDth combines real with surreal situations during the COVID-19 pandemic. It casts a kaleidoscopic lens on survival through prejudice, violence, racial inequality and the struggle for breath among Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities and families, exacerbated by the pandemic.</p>

The survival stories are interwoven with abstract moments reflecting the more surreal experiences and historical resonances of the pandemic. </h3><h2>The play was produced by Sohaya Visions in partnership with Mukul and Ghetto Tigers.</h2>

The reception ticket also includes refreshments for some select events over two days.</h3><p>The Festival is co-directed by Sanjukta Ghosh (SSAI) and Farzana Qureshi (SOAS Library) and supported by the Students Union, SOAS Library, SOAS Research and Enterprise. The festival is in partnership with South Asian Heritage Month, the well-known month-long celebration in the United Kingdom (similar in spirit to Black History Month and other awareness months). The SOAS SAHM is in collaboration with Jasvir Singh OBE and Dr Binita Kane along with the wider team.</p>
