Guided Breathwork session for Eldest daughters Led by Dr Julie

Breathwork Session for Eldest Daughters

Eldest daughters often carry a lot of responsibilities, family expectations, and internal pressures that can build quietly over time. This session is an invitation to pause, and give yourself permission to pay attention to your body and your breath. We will begin the session with a 20-minute reflective practice using the Onua card deck. The guided prompts will help you all, in small groups, explore the narratives you've inherited, the roles you have carried, and what it might feel like to shift these. We will then move into a 40-minute guided breathwork practice, using soothing, intentional breathing techniques to help create a sense of ease in the body.

About Onua:

Onua is a community and resource hub that is focused on inclusive social, mental and physical wellness for women of colour. We provide events and culturally-focused resources to help women nurture their wellbeing.

Your facilitator:

Dr Julie is a registered Clinical Psychologist, academic, and fellow eldest daughter who provides psychological therapy, consultation, and reflective spaces for individuals and communities navigating personal and professional challenges. In addition to her clinical work and research, she is currently undergoing training to become a breathwork practitioner.

Her approach is holistic and relational, grounded in evidence-based practice while deeply respectful of each individual’s values, beliefs, and cultural context. Julie integrates psychological theory with practical tools, helping clients build resilience, deepen self-understanding, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

In her academic role, Julie teaches and supervises on areas such as the intersection of gender and race, and the cultural adaptation and acceptability of psychological interventions. She is passionate about ensuring that mental health support is not only effective, but accessible, relevant, and emotionally safe for individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Her teaching challenges students to consider how power, identity, and lived experience shape therapeutic relationships and outcomes.

All proceeds from this session will go towards the Home Girls Unite hardship fund, supporting eldest daughter are experiencing financial hardship.
