PROGRAMME RATIONALE
The BRIDGING THE GAP professional development programme directly draws on Babbasa's knowledge and experience of working with over 67 communities and cultures, 1600+ young people and 150+ cross-sector agencies. The core purpose of the programme is to add value to the work of our partners, in line with our organisational mission, to bring about systemic change.
PROGRAMME AIMS
BRIDGING THE GAP builds on the needs identified from research (Diversity Matters, McKinsey 2016 and Inclusive Leadership, Deloitte Consulting 2016) on the benefits of diversity and inclusion at the workplace, with an overarching aim to:

<LI>Help management improve the diversity of your workforce, build a more inclusive working environment, enhance your social responsibility offer and increase the attractiveness of your brand or product in diverse and younger markets</LI>
<LI>Support staff of our key partners (employers and education institutions) to overcome conscious and unconscious biases inhibiting them from creating environments to allow for a more diverse and representative workforce and culture</LI>
</OL>
PROGRAMME MODULES &amp; OBJECTIVES
The participatory programme is divided into four independent modules. Each module is packed with interactive activities deliverable over the dates as follows:
Module 1: Developing cultural competency at the leadership level - 30th January 2019, 9:30am -1pm
<UL>
<LI>Improve understanding of the distinction between diversity, equality, equity and inclusion.</LI>
<LI>Explore key attitudes, skills and knowledge required for intercultural competency.</LI>
<LI>Reflect on and assessed own and organisation’s level of cultural competency.</LI>
<LI>Receive critical feedback from peers on action planning.</LI>
<LI>Start planning for change</LI>
</UL>
 
Module 2: Understanding diverse communities, groups and subcultures - 28th February 2019,  9:30am -1pm
<UL>
<LI>Gain an understanding of how simple gestures or mannerism can be misinterpreted.</LI>
<LI>Attain a greater understanding of religion and culture.</LI>
<LI>Improve understanding of the lifestyle of young people</LI>
<LI>Acquire basic information on how to support young people of ethnic minority and LGBT+ background.</LI>
</UL>
 
Module 3: Reaching young audience (recruitment channels and marketing tactics) - 21st March 2019,  9:30am -1pm
<UL>
<LI>Gain an understanding of the basics of community outreach.</LI>
<LI>Gain an understanding of how to reach young people through marketing</LI>
<LI>Develop a targeted outreach and engagement plan.</LI>
</UL>
 
Module 4: Engaging with young people (nurturing talent at the workplace) - 16th April 2019, 9:30am-1pm
<UL>
<LI>Improve understanding of the rules of engagement when working with your people: in particular with reference to attitudes, skills and knowledge.</LI>
<LI>Improve understanding of key learning and communications styles.</LI>
<LI>Develop an engagement plan.</LI>
</UL>
 
ABOUT BABBASA
Babbasa has a vision to create a world where young adults are inspired and able to realise their employment and enterprise ambitions, irrespective of where they live, their nationality, ethnicity, gender, race, sexuality or faith. Babbasa’s unique development programmes have a proven track record in engaging some of Bristol’s hardest to reach communities, and young people (16-25years), to help them pursue their professional ambitions. With over 67 cultural communities engaged, 1,600 young people supported and a network of over 150 cross-sector agencies and organisations, Babbasa's track record as an established social enterprise based in Bristol can be partly evidenced through the following:
