Join Jersey Deaf Society at the work Café for a practical session focused on deaf awareness for businesses and the community.
As part of Deaf Awareness Week, Carole, a qualified lipreading tutor and Deaf Awareness trainer, will guide you through real ways to improve how you communicate with deaf people. Drawing on lived experience, this session keeps things simple, honest, and useful.
You will explore deaf culture and identity, understand the barriers people face in everyday settings, and learn practical communication tips you can use in customer service, hospitality, and daily interactions. You will also be introduced to basic British Sign Language signs and the role of lipreading and clear speech.
This is a hands on session with opportunities to take part, ask questions, and build confidence in a supportive environment.
Whether you are a business owner, team member, or part of the local community, you will leave with practical tools to create a more inclusive experience for everyone.
