Techniques of the Cyanotype Process with Charlotte Graham-Spouge

This Skill Sharing Session will be led by Brighton Artists Network member Charlotte Graham-Spouge and will look at cyanotype techniques.

In the digital age photography may be everywhere around us but the analogue processes that initiated it are little known.

An early form of photography, cyanotype prints are so named because of their distinctive cyan blue colour.

The session includes information on the practicalities of the process, techniques and inspiration from other artists, a demonstration of how to make a print and the opportunity to share your work live and talk with fellow participants in an online forum.

Charlotte is an MA photography student, artist and curator from London. She has exhibited in Brighton, London and Eastbourne. Her work aims to represent the experiences of self-identifying women from around the world and raise awareness of social and environmental issues. Now based in Brighton, she is selling work from her Etsy shop and exhibiting at Brighton Photo Fringe in October.

Important information about this session:

To take part in this session you will need:

tray for water to rinse prints

tea towels, leaves

flowers

feathers

a mix of translucent objects and solid objects

black and white negatives

cyanotype paper (see below for more details)

You can purchase packs of cyanotype paper from Zoing Image in Brighton Laines for £12.50. Alternatively you can add them to your order at check out by selecting the £15 ticket

Please note ticket sales close on the 4th October to allow time for royal mail delivery times.

This process is weather dependent so if the weather doesn’t allow, a pre-recorded demonstration will be used and Charlotte will be available for questions afterwards.

About our Skill Sharing Sessions:

Peer-to-peer support is a key value of Brighton Artists Network. Our Skill Sharing Sessions invite our members to share a skill with the rest of the group and learn from each other.

Each session begins with a short introduction by the session lead, followed by a surgery style Q&A. Members are invited to bring questions and examples of work they have been doing in relation to the session theme for feedback from the session-lead and the rest of the group.

Members are asked to submit their questions and examples of their work on the Eventbrite sign up form, or you can email them to events@brightonartistsnetwork.co.uk until a week before the event.

Please note each session also provides a paid opportunity for our members, with all ticket sales going directly to the artist leading the session.
