Description

**PLEASE NOTE RESCHEDULED DATE - 15 MARCH**

Lost Property Arts Collective are best known for their biannual sound art festival Fort Process, based in Newhaven Fort. For this Brighton Arts Lab night they will present new and recently developed performances and installations from members of the collective and associated artists.

Performers:

Jobina Tinnemans: ‘Varesotto’ and ’The Shape Of Life Aquatic’
Jobina takes you to the Hinterland of electronics. Like a sonic Bob Ross she will take you to a scenery of digitised wildlife, pastorale parameters and overgrown pockets of rustic returns. “And what is that there in the distance - can you hear it, too? Yes dear friend, that’s electric poetry right there. Let me paint it for you.” Jobina will be performing ‘Varesotto’ and ’The Shape Of Life Aquatic’ on her cream jar inter-facials. Bring your swimming costumes and snorkels.

David Bramwell: The World’s Worst Orchestra and Heresy in the Avant-Garde
In this talk David Bramwell will look at rise and fall of the “world’s worst orchestra” - the Portsmouth Sinfonia - which started out with concept that musicians attempting to play on instruments completely unfamiliar to them could make for interesting artistic outcomes…

Antipattern
Al Strachan’s solo adventures in cornet and electronics draw on sounds fed in from outside the building and inside his body.

Fettucini Spicer
Like Jedwood with moustaches, multi non/instrumentalists Fettucini Spicer attempt to provoke each other into action by the application of a multitude of instuments and objects too numerous to mention!

Stone Cornelius
Stone Cornelius is the solo project of Mu Extraordinaire (The Best Ones, Plastic Containers of Nothing, Interior Architecture) working in sound collage with live percussion and theatrical elements. Each live performance focuses on a set point in time, drawing inspiration from tropes associated with each occasion. Stone Cornelius is an unsettling performative storytelling of the human experience, taking found and created recordings of the local environment and the culture they fit into and reworking them into a voyeuristic peek into the lives of others.

Ed Briggs’ Evil Organ
Ed - known for his experiments in anti-gravity, laser bagpipes and more - plays his evil organ with help from musical friends Thom Punton (Tiger Cats) and more tba!

Installations

Jason Hotchkiss
A rare chance to play with some of the brilliant self-invented electronic creations of Jason Hotchkiss, including 1D Pong, Tesla Coil Organ and the Chaos Matrix.

Dis Come Fort
A triptych by Sam Hewitt
“These paintings were started en plein air at the Fort Process event 2018. The first layer of each was an abstract application of acrylic which I then left in the rain. The rain was the root note of the day. I then chose three locations around the site and painted the people that stood still for long enough as the second layer. The third layer, which is in oils, was added in the studio using photographs from the day as source information.”

In the spirit of the creative happenings of the sixties, Brighton Arts Lab is a new bi-monthly event, serving up performances, spoken word, workshops, film and exhibitions. Each event is themed around different aspects of creativity.

The Lab aims to be inclusive, offering opportunities for local artists and performers to collaborate through our events, and for audiences to be entertained, stimulated and challenged.

Please get in touch via our Facebook Page to suggest future themes and to let us know if you have ideas for how you might like to contribute to one of our events.

Brighton Arts Lab is in partnership with the Phoenix Gallery and is curated by Catalyst Club host, author and podcaster, David Bramwell.
