Join our partnership meeting in July to find out why 'outdoor spaces and buildings' are crucial to an Age-Friendly Bristol
About this event
Bristol Ageing Better is bringing back its partnership meetings – a chance for people and professionals committed to improving the lives of older people in our city to come together. We’ll share positive examples of work being done, discuss challenges and solutions, and explore ways to strengthen each others’ work. Over the next year, we’ll be focusing on the Age-Friendly City; a framework outlined by the World Health Organisation which Bristol adopted in 2018. Each of our meetings will focus on one of the eight age-friendly domains, with the October meeting focusing on outdoor spaces & buildings.
We want a city where older people are able to age in place, where they can remain mobile and have easy access to services. This includes having barrier-free public spaces and buildings which are useable and accessible for disabled people and those with mobility difficulties and designing urban environments that foster a sense of belonging and connectedness.
Joining us to talk about the work they are doing to investigate and improve the age-friendliness of Bristol's public spaces are:
- Pippa Winship, Academic Researcher in Urban Studies, who has recently completed a research project into the walkability of Bristol and Bath
- Bianca Rossetti, Age-Friendly Project Officer at BAB
We are also delighted to be joined by Chris Booth, Commissioning Officer at Barnsley Council, to speak about the town's newly-launched 'Take a Seat' project. The scheme aims to encourage people to get out and about more by providing suitable stopping places, simultaneously helping to combat the physical deconditioning experience by people as a result of the pandemic
There will be time for an audience Q&A and for participants to contribute their own insights and experiences during a workshop session.
