Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

This free event will be suitable for:

  • Youth workers and those who support young people
  • Voluntary and community sector organisations
  • Businesses who provide volunteer opportunities for young people
  • Volunteering centres

The British Red Cross project, Inspired Action, is a youth engagement initiative with a difference; we reach out to groups of young people who typically don’t engage in volunteering, and explore ways to remove barriers to participation, so that everyone can enjoy the many benefits that being a volunteer brings. Funded by Spirit of 2012, and in partnership with Whizz-Kidz, we have supported nearly 700 young people into volunteering opportunities, and learnt a lot about being inclusive to disability along the way.

We would like to share our experiences, lessons learnt but also excitement, joys and all the wonderful stories with our supporters and friends. It is therefore a great pleasure for us to invite you to our Final Learning Event, taking place on Thursday 23rd February, 2017 at The Royal York Hotel in York.

To secure a place at this event please register via Eventbrite by the deadline of Friday 17th February 2017.

Inspired Action's Final Learning Event

The event will mark the launch of our Inspired Action Toolkit, a valuable tool for you and your organisations. The toolkit will draw on the lessons from Inspired Action and provide plenty of recommendations for inclusive practice and case studies for anyone engaged in youth volunteering. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to:

  • Discover young people's views about volunteering and disability
  • Engage in discussions on accessibility of volunteering
  • Learn from our case studies and reports from our focus groups
  • Share good practice with us and other organisations
  • Understand what we as individuals or organisations still need to improve when it comes to inclusive youth volunteering.

Young People's Panel

Following last year's popularity and very positive feedback, the Young People's Panel is back! Our young people will be showcasing their projects, ideas and experiences during the panel and throughout the day. Please send us any questions you would like them to answer or topics you would like them to discuss prior to the event.

Workshops & Inspirational Speakers

Choose two from four fun and interactive workshops with each focusing on a different aspect of inclusive youth volunteering.

  • FLEXIBLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE: a closer look at how Inspired Action has developed flexible roles for young volunteers.
  • DISABILITY EQUALITY TRAINING (delivered by Whizz Kidz): a taster of Whizz Kidz’s excellent disability equality training.
  • CONFIDENCE & LEADERSHIP TRAINING: we will be sharing some of the popular activities delivered through Inspired Action’s confidence and leadership training available to our young volunteers.
  • DISABILITY INCLUSION IN PRACTICE: understand how Inspired Action has cultivated inclusivity; we will be showcasing example of good practice and looking at how your organisation can be more inclusive.

You will have the opportunity to hear from a number of inspirational speakers, including Channel 4 News' sports reporter and wheelchair basketball player, Jordan Jarrett-Bryan...

... and Hattie Little who was a member of Team GB's Archery Paralympic team, and was the star of a CBBC documentary, 'My Life: Race For Rio'. Both Jordan and Hattie are Whizz-Kidz ambassadors and we are delighted to have them speaking at our event.
