With terms such as 'cloud computing' and 'artificiality', AI often comes across as immaterial and environmentally unimpactful. However, the rise of generative AI, high-performance computing and data centres together with the corresponding increase in end-users, is unbalancing existing energy and water ecosystems globally.
While there are infrastructural solutions to the environmental impact of AI, the event will focus on how to build awareness with both AI developers and users on making AI more environmentally friendly.
The event will present three key topics from Dr Georgia Panagiotidou’s research lab:
- How the AI community views sustainability
- Limitations and ways forward for current eco-feedback awareness tools
- New tools for making AI users more aware of their environmental impact
No prior knowledge of AI is required to enjoy this event. It may be of particular interest to those working in sustainability.
This event is a collaboration between the King’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the Net Zero Centre.
