The session provides a clear and practical introduction to the Act, outlining its background, purpose and the significant changes it introduces to the design and construction industry.
The Building Safety Act establishes a strengthened regulatory framework focused on improving building safety, accountability and competence across the lifecycle of a project. Central to this is the new dutyholder regime, including the role of the Principal Designer, responsible for planning, managing and monitoring design work to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
The event will focus on the implications for structural and civil engineers, explaining the need to demonstrate competence, actively manage design risk and clearly evidence compliance throughout the project lifecycle. Attendees will gain an understanding of the practical steps required, including coordination with other dutyholders, maintaining robust design records and contributing to the “golden thread” of information.
This session is intended to provide engineers with a concise overview of their obligations and support them in adopting compliant, proportionate and effective approaches to meeting the requirements of the Building Safety Act.
