Newham Heritage Month 2025

Newham Heritage Month is an annual heritage festival organised by Newham Council with kind support from National Lottery Heritage Fund. In 2025, the festival will take place in September 2025 with a programme of events on the theme of 'Newham at 60'.

BUILT BY WECold Islanders presents a workshop, film screening, and reception celebrating Caribbean-led third spaces in Newham.Saturday 20th September1-3pm: Textile workshop with Designer Kris ThomasA textiles-based creative workshop using punch needle, hand embroidery and appliqué on calico to explore and document Caribbean spaces, memories and everyday rituals.4-6pm: Screening and panel talk of films exploring community spaces and Caribbean heritageLove Languages directed by Jason OsborneIt's a London Ting produced by Marilyn Fontaine and Directed by Jack MatthewOur Roots, Our Heritage produced by Eastside Community Heritage in partnership with a group of young people from Stratford and West Ham Youth Forum, FSW (Newham Youth Parliament)6.30-8.30: Come and lime - drinks, food, dj &amp; photobooth with Takenya HolnessAdditional info for workshop:A textiles-based creative workshop using punch needle, hand embroidery and appliqué on calico to explore and document Caribbean spaces, memories and everyday rituals.Participants will create individual embroidered patches inspired by a personal or collective Caribbean space — from verandas and barbershops to dancehalls, kitchens or churches. These will later be combined into a large, collaborative textile artwork that will be archived — contributing to Caribbean history and preserving culture for future generations.Led by Designer Kris ThomasDrop-ins welcome to the exhibition area and lime. Please book your place for the film screening and workshop, as numbers are limited.
