Work Party for the annual cut and rake the Abbey Ponds butterfly bunds, with some hedge-laying if sufficient volunteers
Please join us from 10 am at the top of the Abbey Ponds hoggin path: what3words feed.sugars.relief
At the top of Abbey Ponds, just before the gate into Durslade Community Garden, you may have walked past two grassy banks, without knowing their stories – these are 'Butterfly Bunds': the upper one chalk, and the lower local oolitic limestone, both providing small patches of calcareous grassland to encourage wildflowers, and the pollinators that feed upon their nectar.
On Saturday morning, 21 February, local ecologist Angus Davies will be leading the annual cut and rake of these bunds. We need 4/5 volunteers to help – and if another 3 or so were available, we will combine a bit of hedge laying as well.
Please bring hand tools, dress appropriately for the weather, and a wheelbarrow would also be helpful. Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday 21st!
