Route description

This scenic circular hike from Buxton begins in the town centre, heading west through rolling countryside towards the tranquil Goyt Valley. Follow well-marked paths past the sparkling waters of Errwood Reservoir before exploring the atmospheric ruins of Errwood Hall, hidden among the trees. From here, the route climbs steadily onto open moorland, reaching the summit of Shining Tor, the highest point in Cheshire, with sweeping views over the Peak District. Descend via the wild and open landscape of Goyt’s Moss, then follow woodland trails through Buxton Country Park, returning gently to the town centre, where cafés and historic streets await.
