CABFishMan is an international research project aimed at improving the protection of the marine environment and marine resources in the Northeast Atlantic. Working across the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, and Portugal, the project has worked with the small-scale fishing (SSF) sector to facilitate a collaborative approach, developing tools for management that will support ecosystem-sensitive governance of SSFs in the region.

Since 2019, we have worked alongside fishermen, fisheries managers, researchers, and policy makers to identify and address knowledge gaps, and provide practical tools that are specifically designed to support the sustainable, collaborative management of small-scale and inshore fisheries.

As the project draws to a close, we are excited to showcase these tools at an interactive symposium - hosted online and in person in Bilbao, Spain. At the event, the CABFishMan team will provide tutorials on how to use the tools in different management and fishery scenarios, give guidance on how they may apply to different regulations and policy themes, and explore real life examples drawn from our research case studies.

Attendees are welcome to ask questions and explore how the tools may be applicable to their fishery.

One hour of the event will be live streamed via our YouTube account, showcasing the main findings and outputs of the project: a suite of innovative tools and processes developed during the CABFishMan project, which aim to inform management recommendations and facilitate decision-making. Attendance is free, and viewers will be able to ask questions via comments.

Those that can join us in Bilbao will enjoy a full day event on 22 March 2023 during World Maritime Week at Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Bilbao, Spain. The CABFishMan team will be providing tutorials on how to use the tools in different management and fishery scenarios, as well as guidance on how they may apply to different regulations and policy themes.
