We're a group of entrepreneurs, co-operators, activists and changemakers, looking to engage our community in the upper Calder Valley to co-create our next economy.It’s tough out there. The economy isn’t showing much sign ofgetting back to ‘normal’ after the crash is it? For sure, lots of our local businesses are open again after the floods, a tribute to our local resolve and co-operation. But still, many people are feeling the bite of austerity, low wage jobs, debt and turbulent political times while they watch the shrinking wealth get concentrated into fewer hands.Do you think perhaps we need a different approach to economics? A post-capitalist vision for a new, just, sustainable economy where the people matter? One that helps us take back control?Picture our local community, secure and prosperous, resilient from the financial, political and ecological shocks in the country and the wider world. Imagine a Calder Valley where the economy is comprised of hundreds of small co-operative enterprises with social, sustainability and resilience aims at their core. Imagine being part of one of these enterprises, where your community and co-workers support you and the enterprise and in turn, your enterprise supports others and the local population.We can make this a reality, if we foster an economy of mutual self-help between the existing and new enterprise – a solidarity economy. Calderdale has a proud history of co-operation and co-operative businesses. It already has the greatest concentration of Co-ops in the UK and they can act as a catalyst to kickstart other social enterprises into being and help them grow.On Friday 5th May 2017, at our main Bootstrap Event, we will:- celebrate the local emerging social enterprise and recognise the strength borne of our local co-operative history.- host inspirational speakers and workshops- provide an opportunity for existing social enterprise to showcase their work and network with other enterprises and infrastructure organisations.- inspire others to explore the possibility of starting a social enterprise.- run a lively “Community of Dragons” event, where the community audience act in the role of the dragons. It’s an opportunity for start-up social enterprises to promote their idea and appeal for support and investment. There will be food, entertainment and lots to celebrate.ww.calderbootstrap.org

We're bringing together our community with the movers and shakers in the emerging alternative solidarity economy. Calderdale Bootstrap is a two-part afternoon and evening event - a celebration, networking and learning experience around the current and future Solidarity Economy of Calderdale and Beyond. </H3>

An entertaining evening introduced by the inspiring Rob Hopkins of the Transition Network where you will hear about the exciting plans of five local social enterprises, and as part of "The Community of Dragons", help support their development in a variety of interesting ways.
 6.30pm till late. 
The Town Hall will be providing a bar.

Who is this event for?
This event is designed to be suitable for anyone; from someone just interested in finding out more about how we might organise and deliver our next economy; through to those exploring ideas around new enterprise and livelihoods; to those already active and working in the new economy. Alternatively, you might live locally and want to come along and give your support to budding new social enterprises, as a member of our 'Community of Dragons'. It's about bringing all these people together and seeing what happens. 
Can I pitch my business idea to the "Community of Dragons"?
We are currently recruiting the enterprises to pitch, so please get in touch with us at calderbootstrap@gmail.com
Do I have to come to all sections of the event?
You are very welcome to come to all of it, but each section is ticketed separately if you are unable to. 
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No we will have a list of attendees 
What if i want to come but can't afford a ticket?
Just get in touch with us at calderbootstrap@gmail.com and we'll sort it.
What is the Solidarity Ticket option?
If you are unable to attend but would like to support our work or subsidise a free place, then you can still buy a soldarity ticket and be part of it. You can buy as many as you like and pay what you feel.
