Event description

Description

Doors open 7pm

Science is an incredibly powerful tool... but can it explain everything? What about philosophy, ethics, or theology? And what are the implications for religious belief? Is religion made obsolete by science? Professor Ard Louis provides his take on the relationship between science and faith.

Ard Louis is Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Oxford where he leads an interdisciplinary research group studying problems at the boundary between chemistry, physics and biology. He also writes and speaks widely on science and faith and, in 2013, he was elected a member of the International Society for Science and Religion. He recently made the 4-part documentary Why Are We Here with David Malone and appeared in The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, giving him an Erdős–Bacon number of 6. He was born in the Netherlands, but grew up in Gabon. His hobbies include molecular gastronomy, applying science to the art of cooking.

There will be opportunities for audience participation through a Q&A session. There will also be a book table at the event.
