Girl Geek Scotland is a volunteer group, started over 10 years ago, with the goal to create a network & community to support women working and studying in the technical, creative and related sectors in Scotland.

The first of three events exploring ideas and inspiration around starting and growing your career in tech.

Are you interested in exploring a career in tech? Or curious about how people change their career path to work in tech? If you are looking for inspiration and ideas, join us in this, our first of three events, to hear from some amazing speakers who have all carved out new careers for themselves in tech.From online courses and training, to graduate apprenticeships and MSc&#x27;s, we&#x27;ll hear how each made the decision to change and the reasons for choosing their very different routes to get there. We&#x27;re looking forward to hearing them share the goods, and the bads, about their journey, and hope it will inspire you too.We&#x27;ll be sharing more about the speakers in the lead up to the event - make sure you&#x27;re <a href="https://twitter.com/girlgeekscot" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">following us on twitter</a> to find out all about them!Where is the event?This event is a virtual event so all you need is your computer and access to the Zoom link will be sent to you prior to the event.What’s the format of the event?First up we’ll hear from each of our three speakers about their different journeys.Then we’ll break off into groups to talk details and share our own experiences and thoughts. As a group, prepare some questions that you&#x27;d like some help or guidance with. An ideal opportunity to meet some of your fellow attendees too, let&#x27;s start getting some really valuable networking done again.Finally we&#x27;ll rejoin our speakers and get their input on those questions and thoughts.What should you bring?You don’t need to bring anything specific with you but it would be great if you came along prepared to share your experiences. Other than that, bring enthusiasm, a desire to share ideas and take on board suggestions!What does it cost?The event is free for attendees How long will it last?Our event will start at 18:00 and last until around 19:30. Don&#x27;t worry if you need to leave early, or arrive a little late, you are still more than welcome to attend.Who should come?Though the ideas and inspiration will work really well of folk looking to change careers, the advice that can apply to anyone from new graduates to those in later stages of their career. And maybe you&#x27;re already in tech, and just want to hear how others have done it and do a bit of networking.Whilst our events are aimed at those who identify as women and non-binary, we welcome all who want to help build a better community by listening, understanding and supporting each other.Gentlemen, you are most welcome if you have been invited by a woman attending the event, or if you don&#x27;t know anyone going, please get in touch with the organisers before you book your ticket.Code of ConductAll our events are governed by our Code Of Conduct.
