Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier Wildlife Supplements WS1 (Deer) and WS 3 (Squirrel) requirements and Impact monitoring techniques

Current deer awareness / issues and monitoring for Higher Tier Stewardship and deer impact assessment methodology and practical demonstration

Who the event aimed at: The events are relevant for all those involved with woodland and deer management. Recommended for current and prospective applicants, agents, and landowners involved in Countryside Stewardship or Woodland Creation.

Introduction

Deer have increased in range and number over the past 50 years, and deer are now present throughout the majority of England.

The introduction of deer and squirrel management incentives have been developed to support their future management in response to the desire to increase the management of, and creation of, woodlands across the country. The impact of deer and squirrels is recognised, and the management of both species must be considered across landscape areas.

The day will consist of two main sessions, a theory-based morning session covering a variety of subject matter to support the application of, and delivery of deer and squirrel management being supported through Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier funding. The afternoon session will be a practical demonstration of the Impact Monitoring methodologies being used.
