Event Details

This is a five-week A-Level Computer Science CPD course for teachers from CAS London and Teaching London Computing. The course equips in-service Computer Science teachers with the programming subject knowledge and skills to teach the new A-level Computing curricula.

The course dates are as follows.

• Wednesday 4 October 2017
• Wednesday 11 October
- no class Wednesday 18 October
• Wednesday 25 October
- no class Wednesday 1 November
• Wednesday 8 November
• Wednesday 15 November 2017

Light refreshments will be available and copies of lecture slides and practical worksheets will be made available to all delegates.

Fees
Our courses cost £100 and free places are available for CAS Master Teachers (please email Jo (j.brodie@qmul.ac.uk) for the discount code, including a link to your CAS membership page).

Eligibility requirements
This course is a follow-on from the CAS London GCSE Computing CPD course. The course assumes that you will be familiar with programming in Python or a similar language. It is essential to have experience in programming, to GCSE level at least, including assignment, if statements, loops and arrays and ideally also function definitions.

Course overview
The course is taught using Python and includes much practical work.

Sessions will contain a mix of theory and programming exercises and be taught through development of an OOP project suitable for A level curriculum.

The exact running order may change but will probably follow these themes -

• Week 1 - Classes
• Week 2 - Inheritance
• Week 3 - Composition and Polymorphism
• Week 4 -Abstraction and Encapsulation
• Week 5 - Consolidation
