Join us for the Socially Engaged Photography Network’s North West regional meet-up with guest speaker and award-winning photographer Casey Orr! Casey will discuss her current exhibition Saturday Town with SEPN coordinator and Open Eye Gallery’s Head of Social Practice, Liz Wewiora.
Since 2013 Casey Orr has travelled throughout the UK with her pop-up portrait studio photographing young people on Saturday afternoons. The project explores fashion, identity and the self-expression of young people on the high streets and public spaces of towns across the country. Saturday Town is a fantastic example of mass participatory photography, and we are lucky to share the very last Saturday of the exhibition with Casey Orr for this event.
The exhibition tour and Q&A with Casey will then be followed by an informal network session between the event participants to discuss their current work or interests in working on participatory and socially engaged photography projects. Please feel free to bring examples of your work along with you on the day to talk through with others.
SEPN (Socially Engaged Photography Network) is a national initiative which supports the discussion and acceleration of socially engaged photographic practice. This means projects where artists and communities come together to co-author or co-produce work about topics which matter to them.
