This workshop is based on a collection of small coffins found on Arthur’s Seat in 1836 which are now on display at the National Museum Scotland. Ian Rankin, one of Edinburgh’s best known crime fiction writers thanks to his televised character, Inspector Rebus, used the find in one of his books. In ‘The Falls’ the coffins are a key part of the plot and were the inspiration for the book.

Listen to a story from a local author inspired by this work and learn a variety of techniques, ranging from origami folding, printing on paper and fabric, stencilling and other mark making. They will create origami boxes and ‘primitive’ fabric dolls, both, for them to keep and for inclusion in the final Edinburgh 900/ Edinburgh Remakery Pop-up Book. This will be on display in various venues around Edinburgh.
