Founded in 1949 by Harry Blech,the London Mozart Players is the UK's longest established chamber orchestra. Known for its unmistakable British roots, the orchestra has developed an outstanding reputation for adventurous, ambitious programming, from Baroque through to genre-crossing contemporary music.The ensemble has enjoyed a long history of association with many of the world's finest musical personalities including Igor Stravinsky, Sir James Galway, Dame Felicity Lott, Jane Glover, Julian Lloyd Webber, Stephen Hough, Nicola Benedetti, John Suchet and Simon Callow.The London Mozart Players are the only professional orchestra in the UK to bemanaged both operationally and artistically by the players, and has enjoyed the patronage of HRH The Earl of Wessex since 1988.

World-renowned cellist Raphael Wallfisch will be joined by amazing cellists of all ages and stages at St John’s in a masterful demonstration of the beauty and versatility of the cello. The concert will also be compèred by Classic FM presenter Sam Pittis who lives locally and has supported LMP concerts both at St John’s and Fairfield Halls.The musical programme for Cellofest includes Romberg’s Cello Concerto No.4 in E minor. Tchaikovsky’s Nocturne, Dvorak’s Silent Woods and Rossini’s Une Larme are also on the programme which has been compiled to showcase the versatility and beauty of this beloved of instruments. Wallfisch, together with a talented cello ensemble of players, will delight the audience with works by Haydn and Schubert. In addition, fifteen young cellists from the Croydon Youth Orchestra will perform Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and a cello sextet will play Schubert’s Ave Maria.
