Overview

Discover Celtic Darbar – music, dance and culture collide in a joyful, family-friendly musical theatre experience. Free event.

Celtic Darbar is a vibrant, family-friendly musical theatre production that brings together community performers, dancers from Ballet Cymru, local Welsh artists, and acclaimed musicians from London. Led by Cardiff-based Indian classical vocalist Amruta Garud (Ayan Cymru), the production celebrates cultural exchange through live music, dance, and storytelling.

Set within a reimagined royal court, the story gently explores how music, movement, and creativity continue to flourish even as the world around them begins to change. The performance blends Indian and Welsh musical traditions, featuring vocals and instruments such as crwth and harp, alongside sitar, drums, bass, electric guitar, and tabla, creating a rich and immersive soundscape.

At the heart of Celtic Darbar is a powerful celebration of inclusion and artistic dialogue. Audiences will witness dancers moving seamlessly between styles — including Indian dancers performing Russian ballet techniques and a Russian dancer performing Indian Kathak, as well as an Indian male dancer embracing ballet with grace and dedication, challenging traditional boundaries within dance.

Developed through strong community participation, the production offers a joyful and accessible experience for audiences of all ages. Celtic Darbar is a celebration of diversity, creativity, and connection across cultures and generations.
