Description

A free one-day event looking at the institutional and cultural barriers standing in the way of black and minority ethnic (BME) staff and students within higher education.

This insightful conference promises to encourage discussion, reflection and action with speakers discussing a range of topics including equality and diversity in sport, diversifying the curriculum and racism within the workplace.

Eminent speakers include: Dr Gurnam Singh; a nationally acclaimed advocate for anti-race and anti-oppressive practice: Professor Shirley Tate; a world-leading researcher in the areas of institutional racism and black identity; and Professor Udy Archibong MBE; an international thought-leader in inclusion and diversity.

A mixture of keynote talks and workshops, the timetable for Challenging Race and Inequality in Higher Education is as follows.

The conference is aimed at Leeds Trinity staff and students, other universities working towards their REC mark, and anyone interested in equality, diversity and higher education. Everyone is welcome to attend.

For Leeds Trinity University staff and students, the conference is an opportunity to gain greater understanding and awareness as Leeds Trinity University prepares its application for the Equality Challenge Unit’s Race Equality Charter (REC) mark. It’s an opportunity to make a difference within the institution.
