EUROCLIO - European Association of History Educators supports the development of responsible and innovative history, citizenship and heritage education by promoting critical thinking, multi-perspectivity, mutual respect, and the inclusion of controversial issues. The Association advocates a sound use of history and heritage education towards the building and deepening of democratic societies, connecting professionals across boundaries of communities, countries, ethnicities and religions. It seeks to enhance the quality of history and citizenship education through capacity building for educators and producing and implementing innovative teaching tools.Since 1993 many independent new organizations, associations and institutes of history educators emerged across Europe and joined EUROCLIO. Right now, EUROCLIO membership covers over seventy history educators’ organizations, associations and institutes from almost fifty countries.

How can we help our students challenge their own stereotypes and preconceptions and engage in meaningful conversations and encounters?

During this webinar series, we will tackle the questions “How do we define the terms ”Stereotypes” and “Preconceptions”?”, “How does stereotypes and preconceptions emerged?” “How can we challenge stereotypes and preconceptions?” to reflect on how to deal with the topic of stereotyping in the classroom. One of the main goals of the webinar is the preparation of teachers and pupils alike with tools, aimed at recognising, confronting and challenging stereotypes and prejudices should they emerge in the classroom. Such practises can be used also in other cases as the development of critical thinking among the students as well as promoting mutual respect and tolerance towards different cultures, religion, ethnicities etc. not only in the classroom but out of school as well.

THE PROGRAMME OF THE WEBINAR SERIESThe webinar series will consist of four sessions:<ul><li>A Keynote Lecture on 02 March at 17:00 (Amsterdam Time) on Stereotypes and implicit bias in education, hosted by <a href="https://ppw.kuleuven.be/cscp/people/00057731" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr. Loes Meeussen</a> (KU Leuven).</li></ul><ul><li>A Workshop on 09 March at 17:00 (Amsterdam Time), hosted by history teacher Mickaël Bertrand. The workshops will focus on teaching strategies on How to teach about stereotypes and preconceptions in history, and specifically the Pink Triangle.</li></ul><ul><li>An interactive workshop on 23 March at 17:00 (Amsterdam Time), hosted by Marko Suica (University of Belgrade) on Stereotypes and prejudices in learning history.</li></ul><ul><li>A Workshop on 30 March at 17:00 (Amsterdam Time), hosted by history teacher Emma Abbate. The workshops will focus on teaching strategies on How to teach about stereotypes and preconceptions in history, and specifically on the routine "THINK, FEEL, CARE"</li></ul>
