Champion Yourself: How the habits of champions can improve the health, as well as the fitness, of recreational joggers and runners.

About this event

All too often recreational joggers and runners end up frustrated, demoralised or injured while trying to do the right thing to get fitter. This is usually influenced by advice, jargon and ‘top tips’ cascading down from elite athletes, gurus or big sports brands via internet click bait. Advice that tends to focus on the things that put the icing on the fitness cake, rather than the habits that produce the cake in the first place.

This interactive workshop explores how the real habits of champion runners can – and should - be applied by us mere mortals to make us fitter and healthier for the rest of our lives.

It will provide practical advice backed up by simple jargon free explanations of the science behind it. Some common myths will be dispelled, and confusion created by the vast amount of contradictory information available nowadays will be removed.

It is aimed at participants of all levels and jog/run leaders looking to develop knowledge and skills to support their groups.

Andy Brooks from Peak Running is an experienced endurance running coach, race director and motivator with a passion for helping people at all points on their fitness journeys achieve their goals. Especially the goals they didn’t believe they were capable of themselves.

Andy is a UK Athletics Running Coach and also a Lydiard Foundation Level II Coach, with a coaching philosophy that ensures health – both physical and mental – is an integral part of improving fitness. As well as coaching a wide range of runners he regularly collaborates with other coaches and specialists, some of which are world leading experts in their field.

His own running has taken him all over the world during the past 27 years to tackle races and personal challenges over distances from less than a mile to over 300, and over all types of terrain from purpose made running tracks to high altitude mountain ranges. He’s been known to come last, first and just about every position in between, so can relate to runners at all levels, and whatever their goal.

Jog Derbyshire is a network of friendly, social jogging groups spreading the length and breadth of the county – from the far tip of the High Peak to the South. The groups cater for everyone – regardless of age or ability – so even if you’re a complete beginner you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
